Orange County to Host Public Meeting on Schunnemunk Rail Trail Project

Orange County will host a public information meeting on Thursday, January 15, 2026, to present updates on the Schunnemunk Rail Trail Project, including the project design, anticipated construction timeline, and next steps. County officials and project representatives will answer questions and hear feedback from the community.

“Acquiring the Schunnemunk Rail Trail is a significant step in preserving an important piece of our region’s history while also creating a sustainable transportation and recreational asset for our community,” said Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. “Like the Heritage Trail, this corridor will provide residents and visitors for generations to come with a safe, scenic place to walk, bike, or commute, as well as to connect with the natural beauty of Orange County for generations to come.”

Public Meeting Details:

  • Date: Thursday, January 15, 2026
  • Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Location: Village Hall, 9 Fairlawn Drive, Washingtonville, NY

About the Schunnemunk Rail Trail Project
The Schunnemunk Rail Trail is a proposed 10-mile, multi-use trail along the former Erie–Lackawanna Railroad corridor. When completed, it will connect the iconic Moodna Trestle in Cornwall to Camp LaGuardia in Chester, expanding outdoor recreation, boosting tourism, and offering new transportation options for residents, workers, and visitors.
